About Integration Ninja

A blog about the unglamorous parts of software that make two systems agree with each other.

What this is

Integration Ninja explains APIs, middleware and messaging in plain language. Most software projects spend more time connecting systems than building them, yet the documentation for that work tends to be either a vendor brochure or a 400-page specification. This blog sits in between: one problem per article, explained with real requests, real failure modes and the trade-offs nobody puts on the slide.

What it covers

  • APIs — REST and SOAP, contracts, versioning, error handling.
  • Reliability — retries, timeouts, idempotency and what happens when the network shrugs.
  • Middleware — ESBs, integration platforms and where the complexity really ends up.
  • Messaging — queues, events and the guarantees they do and do not give you.
  • Integration patterns — the recurring shapes behind most integration designs.
  • Integration and AI — what changes when the client calling your API is a language model.

Who it is for

Integration engineers, backend developers and architects who connect systems for a living, and anyone who has inherited an integration and would like to understand it before changing it. The articles assume you can read a JSON payload and an HTTP request; they do not assume you have read the specification.

Who writes it

Integration Ninja is written by Ahmed Fahim, an integration engineer who designs and builds APIs, middleware and messaging solutions. The articles come from that day-to-day work: the questions that keep coming up in design reviews, and the mistakes that are cheaper to read about than to make.

Every article is written for this site. If you spot a mistake or something that has gone out of date, please tell me and I will correct it.

How often

New articles are added regularly. Each one shows the date it was published, and the home page lists them newest first.
